William C****** T*** L***

Born January 21 2008
At 12:03 pm

It is my joy and privilege to announce the birth of my first son William "Liam". He weighed in at 6lbs, 11ounces and at 19 inches long with a 14 inch head. Mother and child are both doing fine and we'll all head home tomorrow.

Pictured above are my father, older brother and son. Together they form three living generations of William L***s. All total my son is the ninth generation Willam L***. A fine picture were it not for the damnable offence of wearing a Yankee's hat. My mom grabbed the paper for Wednesday and was hoping for some uplifting frontpage coverage of the Inauguration for posterity for her first grandchild. And though there was a special section on the Inauguration the front page was dedicated to the burial of a Soldier from Berthoud (a town north of Denver) who had been Killed in Action. But topping the headlines was the announcement of the death of local conservative stalwart Holly Coors (of the infamous Coors clan). So although my mother was downtrodden over the downbeat headlines I noted cheerfully that as a son of labor and future unionist comes into the world, it is all together fitting and just that a conservative windbag checkout.

And yes I know that it's kind of stupid to blot out my last name when online anonymity is as transparent as the emperor's new robes, but then again if the story teaches us nothing it teaches us the importance of illusions.

I'm sure that there will be more pictures and probably some horrors stories from the front lines so speak, but so far I've avoided being peed on which is no small feat considering that he peed three times between the surgery room and the nursery. So all in all things are looking up and oddly enough even after I took over a week off I've still got a job to return to so we'll see you all when we see you.

Congratulations to you and yours. Brilliant news and hope you're all doing great... I'll expect to hear from you in... oh, six months or so... that's how it's been for me... still I have a daughter... she's cool. And she's only 9mnths old...

Congratulations to you both.

The considered view of an old parent of three daughters:

You spend the first couple of years of their lives trying to get them to sleep.

They grow up, with incredible speed. Within ten years, they are telling you all you didn't (and didn't want to) know.

Then you spend several more years, trying to keep awake, waiting for them to come in.

Is it the same for sons?

I guess we're about to find out. But if my brother and I are any indications then I'm in trouble in about thirteen years or so.

Bit late with this I know, but congratulations. Excellent stuff. The telling question is though, well he be William L*** III? And is your father named after King Billy?

That's kind of scary Malcolm. And by the time my daughter is 18 I'll be... gulp... 60 odd. Yeah. Great. She's really going to listen to me. Sure.

I think you're absolutely right about the sleep thing.

Hey, yourcousin. How is all this going? Sleepless? Relaxed? Entertaining?

WBS,
My overall impression is that he poops, sleeps and suckles on teats all day while I have to get up a 4am like a jerk to go to work. I'm pretty good handling him, but handling my wife is another story. For instance, he's got jaundice right now. No problem for him. He's eating and pooping so it will work it self out in the end, but my wife has been inconsolable over this. So it makes for an interesting dichotomy.

Garibaldy,
Appreciate the congrats. There are no juniors, or the III's or anything else like that in my family (thanfully). My dad's family is protestant stock who did hail at one point from England and Scotland so the King Billy thing is relevant and something I've wondered about myself on frequent occasions. That is part of the reason we call him Liam, well I call him "little pooper", but everyone else calls him Liam. That way I'm still honoring family traditions while giving the finger to Protestant monarchs, just in case that's where we derive the name from. It was also the reason why I refused point blank to call him "Billy" as there'll be no Billy boys in my home.

Sorry to hear you Liam is ill, and hope he gets well soon. King Billy of course, like Cromwell, had his progressive aspects. I quite like the fact that the Stuart monarchs' coffins that had been preserved in France awaiting their return to power, were destroyed during the French Revolution.

Garibaldy,
Appreciate the sentiments. Liam should recover soon. Cromwell may have been a Republican but he was still a prick. I can't say that Catholic monarchs impress me in any way (how could they?) but the hypocrisy of the King Billy and his legacy leave an especially bad taste in my mouth. So I felt it only appropriate to tweak the naming of my first born to embrace the only grouping of people who were *this* close to nailing Thatcher (the Irish in general, not the Provos). Or something along those lines in which the Irish fuck with the English etc. etc.

For all of the shit I talk about the French (and it is alot) you've got to love some of the things they've done.

Jaundice is okay... it's scary but not a huge problem...you should have seen our ones colour when she first appeared and for a good while afterwards was yellow. Very odd.

That 4am start will stand you in good stead throughout sleepless nights... :(

That is the cutest baby I have ever seen. He must have one beautiful mother.
